DLE was a distributed learning environment I built and submitted as a paper to the IEEE. It came in halves. The Teacher's Service Module is where material was made. A name creates the lesson, AddText opens a page for writing after a login, and Add Picture opens the graphics editor, with a tool palette, a text tool and a colour selector. Each page is saved into the lesson as a numbered pair, one text file and one picture, and the instruction panel on the right is part of the program rather than documentation sitting beside it.
The Student Service Module is the other side. Open Lesson lists the lessons on disk and asks for a name, then shows the picture on the left and the text on the right. Next and Last move through the pages, and Search reads every page of the lesson until it finds the word that was typed. One program authored the material and the other delivered it.
Reading the demonstration
The Teacher’s Service Module creates text and picture pages. The Student Service Module opens the saved lesson, changes pages, and searches its contents.
